From My Lens

View from the top…

Eagle Summit Alaska

With the weatherman calling for record high temps in Fairbanks today, I opted to put off working in the yard one more day and take an impromptu road trip with a friend. With snacks, ammo and gasoline loaded into the truck we set off to make the 125 mile trip up the Steese Highway from Fairbanks to Central and perhaps to Circle Hot Springs. The weather certainly didn’t disappoint and neither did the scenery.

This is the view from the top of the 3,624′ high Eagle Summit looking toward Fairbanks. The terminus of the 27-mile Pinnell Mountain Trail can be seen in the distance on the far right. As roads in Alaska go, the entire length of the Steese is in good shape and you’ll likely encounter little other traffic. Be prepared to make frequent stops as the views are too impressive to simply be seen from the seat of a moving vehicle.
