From My Lens

Nowitna River

Relatively isolated, the Nowitna River Wildlife Refuge doesn’t see many visitors. There are no roads; access is by float plane or riverboat. But, that isolation is one of the things I love about it. Just a short trip downriver from our cabin on the Yukon, the Nowitna is a wildlife enthusiasts paradise. Moose, bear, waterfowl, martin, fox and wolves abound. We’ve also caught more than a few monster pike in those waters. This gravel bar served as our campsite a few years ago on a sightseeing trip up the river.
